A video game console is an interactive entertainment computer or modified computer system that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to display a video game. The term "video game console" is used to distinguish a machine designed for consumers to buy and use solely for playing video games from a personal computer, which has many other functions, or arcade machines, which are designed for businesses that buy them and then charge others to play. If it is an older system that runs on RF (re: original NES or Atari) there are simple (and relatively cheap) adapters available at any electronics store. If it is newer, the RCA (red/white/yellow) cables simply plug into the appropriate spaces in the back (or side) of the TV. Sometimes there are HiDef cables that can improve the picture quality; ask when you get your TV - the stores that sell the TVs generally carry the HD cables (or component cables, which in my opinion are just as good - plus, they're cheaper). Q. We (30 year old couple, no kids) are planning to buy a video game console We have basically shortlisted Wii and PS-3. However, we are not sure which one to go for. Is it true that Wii is more childish and does not have interesting games for grown-ups? On the other hand, is PS-3 all slam-bam games which will not be enjoyed by women? Any siggestions? Wii has alot more titles and is alot more fun; ps3 has done very little to live upto how great the ps2 was. While PS3's more mature games make up a more significant percentage of its library, its library is also significantly smaller. Sony's best titles are still ps2, which more and more ps3s wont play, as sony has decided backwards compatibility is bad. Alot of the wii games appeal to ALL ages; most of my friends (early to mid twenties, enjoy mario kart, smash brothers, zelda, mario galazy, and more). For a few more mature-oriented titles, check out no more heroes, fire emblem, the metroid titles, resident evil titles, house of the dead, and baroque to name a few. You can also check… [cont.] Answered by Jan S - Sat Aug 30 17:18:36 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "video game console" |
