How do i set up xbox live with internet connection sharing through my laptop?
Q. I have xbox 360 and xbox live. I set up iternet connection sharing through my laptop to play xbox live and it worked for about a week, that is, until i went to columbus and brought my xobx 360 and laptop with me. To use the internet at my hotel i had to change alot of settings on my laptop, similar to setting up a vpn. When i returned to my home, i hooked up xbox 360 to my laptop how i had had it before, my xbox live wouldn't work. Does anyone know how to fix this? Step-by-step answers wpuld help. And i use wireless internet on my laptop and cannot hook my 360 directly to the modem because it is about 150 feet away.

A. It's really difficult without seeing your laptop. As long as you haven't deleted any of your settings, try deleteing the Hotel configuration completely.

How can i connect to Xbox live when my computer and xbox are in different rooms?
Q. Okay, in short my xbox is in one place but my computer and modem are in the other. I need to connect to Xbox live. I have and adapter but its not strong enough to reach the signal from my wireless router. I cant move my xbox to my computer room but I do have a laptop that gets the signal fine that i can have in my room. How can i make Xbox live happen?

A. just hook up the ethernet cable from your 360 to to your laptop. Once you do that, on your laptop, go to control panel, then network and internet connections, then network connections, right click on your internet connection, go to properties, then advance and check the box that says "allow other users to connect..." Basically enable the internet on your laptop to share its connection

A. 1. use a very long wire (not practical) 2. buy a $100 adapter (too expensive) 3. get it at Costco for $80 (a little less) 4. buy used online for even less (maybe bundled with games) Take your pick. Once you have a wireless connection hooked up, you'll be having so much fun, you'll eventually forget how much you spent on it.

Whats the difference between the xbox 360 arcade and the standard xbox?
Q. I noticed on eBay that the Xbox 360 arcade version is a lot cheaper than the standard Xbox 360, why is this, can I do the same with the arcade version as I can with the Xbox that is $349 in best buy or the standard premium version?
Asked by sobe50418 - Mon Mar 3 17:34:06 2008 - - 5 Answers - 5 Comments
A. the big difference is the hard drive(the hard drive is neccesary if you want to play xbox live/and download stuff from the xbox live marketplace..the arcade doesn't have one(though u can buy one). You might as well just buy the standard because you'll get every accesory/etc that the arcade gives(+ the hard drive)..but the only thing you don't get is the 5 free arcade games(not a big loss).

How do I connect an Xbox 360 to my PC directly using a regular ethernet cable?
Q. Xbox is connected to my PC by an ethernet cable, and my pc is wirelessly connected to my router. Right now, my PC and Xbox don't want to talk to each other, and my PC talks to my router fine. I am not able to change any options on the router. My current goal is to be able to share files from my computer to my Xbox. I'm not worried about Xbox live ast the moment.
Asked by Angus - Fri Jul 3 00:40:18 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The reason they will not talk is because you need a cross-over cable not just a straight ethernet cable. You can not do it without a cross-over

What is wrong with a Xbox 360 system if it does not allow you to play Xbox 360 games?
Q. My Xbox 360 system will not allow me to play any of my Xbox 360 video games. Every time I enter one of them, it reads 'Unplayable Disc'. This applies to them all and from inspecting it, I have not located any major scratches on them or anything really damaging.
Asked by Michael B - Mon Apr 14 13:29:44 2008 - - 3 Answers - 6 Comments
A. DVD drive failure, only covered by the 1 year warranty. You can try cleaning it out with a can of compressed air, it may help a little bit. Eventually you will need to call xbox support and schedule a repair. If you are no longer covered by the 1 year warranty this may cost $100-$140 to have fixed. BUT when you pay to have it fixed, the 1 year and 3 year warranties start over from the day it leaves the repair center.

How can I connect my xbox to a wireless router with an ethernet cable?
Q. I want to connect to xbox live but dont want to spend the money on the wireless router for xbox. My xbox is in the same room as my router. How do I connect it?
Asked by Grant T - Fri Feb 20 11:40:32 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There should be Ethernet ports on both the xbox and the back of the router. You just simply need to determine how long of a cable you need, get it, and plug it in. It's pretty easy.

How do i improve my connection to xbox live?
Q. I have high speed cable internet. I use a wireless connection with a top of the line linksys router. I have the xbox 360 adapter on my xbox to receive the signal, but my connection to xbox live is extremely laggy. I have 2 computers in my house one is connected directly to the router, and the other is connected wirelessly. Both computers run internet perfectly. What can I change to fix my connection to my xbox?

A. There are a few things that can interrupt the strength of the signal: 1) Other computers connected to the network 2) Distance the Xbox is from the router 3) Interference, like having the Xbox inside a dresser, or having the router send signals to your Xbox through walls 4) Are you using file sharing programs like Limewire or BitTorrent? These programs can slow the connection greatly. Hope you figure out what the problem is

A. Sorry, but you can only use the xbox live vision camera. You could try to find a cheap on in the classifieds, but the price is only $40 and it comes with a free microphone which is values at $20, so your only paying $20 for the camera if you can sell the microphone. Its a good buy, and im probably getting one tomorrow. Hope this helped

Q. I have bought the Xbox 360 Arcade, I really don't know the difference between them all except the Elite has a bigger hard drive and is black lol! What I am wondering is what is the difference between the different Xbox 360 consoles apart from the price? Q. I recently bought an Xbox 360 Arcade with Halo 3. I've gone over many websites trying to find differences between it and a normal 20Gb Xbox 360, or is that just it. If that is the case, then will it play Xbox original games if I buy a 20Gb memory for it? Any answers would be greatly received.

A. There is no difference in the systems except the Hard drives . All their guts, operating system and graphics are the same. Yes to play the older system games you need a hard drive and frankly a 20Gb is more that enough room i keep lots of stuff on mine from game info to music files and still have tons of space left. BTW if you want a bargain you can find lots of 20GB hard drives on Ebay and at stores like Gamestop for around $50.

A. In terms of using a router, this is absolutely possible. Make SURE that you are using a router indeed though. Routers and switches physically can look almost identical but the underlying layers in the operations that each perform are much different. A router should be transparent to your ISP and if you have NAT (Network Address Translation) turned on, it should issue 192.168.x.x IP addresses to your Xbox 360. Now if you have NAT turned off, both Xbox 360s will attempt to go to your ISP and register an IP address over the one connection. This will deny one or the other of a connection unless your ISP has issued you more than one IP address which usually costs about 5 dollars extra a month. Can i transfer an Xbox Live profile and account for Xbox 360 to a different profile on the same console?
Q. Mistakenly I set up a new profile for joining xbox live instead of using my extensive one i'd been using (which had a Gamerscore of 4000). Is there a way to transfer the profile and Xbox live account ive set up (which has a gamerscore of 0) to the other profile on the same Xbox? Or can i transfer my details like achievements and games played onto my new xbox live profile? I had heard this can be done at a cost of 800 Microsoft points.

A. All I can say is, why? If you all ready have a gamertag that has 4000, why not use that profile extensively on your 360. If you want another account for whatever reason, than use that one. If your trying to change the name of your gamertag to that of your new gamertag and keep the same score, I don't think that is possible. I've not tried it, but it sounds a bit long winded to me.

How can I regain Xbox 360 achievements that I unlocked offline but later I recovered my profile?
Q. I unlocked some achievements on Battlefield: Bad Company. I transferred my gamer profile to my friend's xbox. When I recovered my profile back to my xbox, my achievements that I got playing offline disappeared. When I started a new game to regain the achievements, it didn't award it. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a way to unlock them again? Thanks.

A. Well, long story short, your achievements are gone. If you unlock achievements offline then recover your gamertag, everything offline will be lost, and it warms you of this before you recover. what you will have to do is play and get them again... it happened to me in quatom of solace. A way to avoid this in the future is to network the offline xbox for a few minutes and then recover it after that

How to connect to xbox live with a wireless routher?
Q. Can you connect to xbox live with a wireless router that uses USB? I tried the USB port on the xbox, but that doesn't work.

A. well there are two to three options. You can connect to your router via an ethernet cord. Just plug it to the back of your router and xbox and you are good to go. You can also buy the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter. It is expensive, usually costing about 100 dollars but it is totally wireless. All you do is hook it to the back of the router and you are good to go! Finally, if you have a computer in the room you wish to play your Xbox 360 at, you can can connect to a computer via the ethernet port. Good luck!
