It was released on November 15, 2001 in North America, February 22, 2002 in Japan, and March 14, 2002 in Australia and Europe and is the predecessor to the Xbox 360. It was Microsoft's first foray into the gaming console market, and competed with Sony's PlayStation 2, Sega's Dreamcast, and Nintendo's GameCube. The integrated Xbox Live service allowed players to compete online. The Xbox was discontinued in late 2006, although the final Xbox game, Madden NFL 09 was released in August 2008. Support for out-of-warranty Xbox consoles was discontinued on March 2, 2009; any in-warranty repair now needed will not be undertaken and faulty consoles will replaced with an Xbox 360 instead. You will have to set up your internet connection on the X-box anyways in order to get your x-box online. :-) Once that is set up is finished you should be able to unplug the cat5 cable coming from your modem and plug it either into your computer or your x-box. There also should also be no problem when switching it back and forth. Of course you will have to decide what you want more the computer to be online or your x-box. PSN is more like PC's - Each game runs on it's own infrastructure. What that means is that when you log into Live you have a single account and friends list that's available in all games all the time. Not only that, it allows cross game messaging and voice chat (If your mate is playing something else you can still talk to them) That also extends to cross game invites. Live also integrates with MSN/Live Messenger for PC, so you can message someone in a game from a PC and vice versa. There's also Xbox.com, which extends a lot of that functionality onto the web. That's the basics, then there's the less technical stuff.
